Dalu nu! Thanks for stopping by! I am Ify, a Nigerian Igbo “gal” and the writer, recipe developer and amateur food photographer and stylist of this blog.
I was born, brought up and based in Lagos, Nigeria
and currently in the United States on a sojourn!
7 years ago and after graduating with a Law degree i decided “all i really want to do is to cook”….
Cooking has always been something i loved doing since i was a young girl. There is something soothing about being in the kitchen and powerful at the same time.
When i am cooking in the kitchen, its seems to be the only time when my mind doesn’t wander in a million places (except of course only when i am asleep). I am completely immersed and able to focus on this one thing; getting a delicious meal out of the kitchen. The powerful thing about it is being able to nourish family and friends and make people happy with a good meal. There is nothing like the sound of laughter and happiness from people around me after a good meal – music to my ears!
…So, right after Law School, i attended culinary school and after that, spent the next 6 years in food service management in Lagos, Nigeria, cooking professionally mostly when it came to trainings and planning new menus. In all of this, i remained a passionate home cook eager to cook for family and friends and doing it any opportunity i got.
Somewhere in between, i did some food writing for a couple of publications. Prior to that time, i hadn’t thought to write about anything neither had i giving myself the opportunity to listen to the voice within. In doing some freelance food writing here and there, i discovered my love for food writing. I also started a food blog a few years ago which i couldn’t quite maintain.
I have however now found the inspiration to “just do it” which can only come through the Grace of God and to Him i owe my Life and everything that i am and without whom i am nothing but dust.
So I am a cordon bleu trained chef who enjoys hospitality and food service who has been and always will be a passionate home cook; enjoying cooking for friends and family and it feels good to have this space where i am able to cook and share it all with you with pictures and recipes.
I am blessed through the grace of God to have my daily companions who help keep me focused. Here is my Miss Diva, my ever present companion and myself.
And here is my Attaboy!
… Isn’t he cute? He seems to have this thing for sunglasses and wearing other people’s shoe’s at the moment… So if you come visiting, please don’t take your shoes off…!
This space is happily carved out by me to share recipes and musings that link to my Nigerian heritage hoping to also learn a lot in the process.
So pull up a chair, pour yourself a glass of Zobo and hang out with me… the pleasure is all mine!
